ICT Literacy Standards

Technology Leadership Cohort 2009-10
There are 22 educators and 13 administrators participating in the North Country Technology Leadership Cohort. They join cohorts in three other regions of the state. This is the second cohort for the TLC program. Learn more.
 
 
Feedback session for U.S. Common Core Standards
At NCES in February, Deb Wiswell from the NHDOE and Heather Driscoll from Revolutionary Classrooms, met with local math and language arts teachers to gather structured feedback on the drafts of the U.S. Common Core Standards in those content areas.
 
Professional Development Series in Hands-On Math
Mathematics consultant Tom Schersten is working with K-8 teachers from Lancaster, Lisbon and Whitefield. He will meet with each grade span three times and each session features a demonstration lesson with students. Here, Tom (far left), is working with third grade students using manipulatives for multiplication. The lessons are a minimum of 90 minutes each and teachers will observe a lesson at each grade level in their cohort. The teachers are intermixed with the students during the hands-on lesson.

"The Singing Revolution": An Exploration of Arts, Culture & Politics

NCES recently hosted a seminar to examine the intersection of arts, culture and politics, using James Tusty's documentary The Singing Revolution. The documentary tells the little known story of how Estonians freed themselves from decades of Soviet occupation in the 1980s. The DVD is available for loan from the NCES Media Center.
 
The seminar was a joint collaboration of NCES, the Arts Alliance and the NH State Council on the Arts with funding by the New Hampshire Humanities Council.
 
North Country Scholars Recognized

Valedictorians, Salutatorians and outstanding Career and Technical Education students from North Country high schools were recognized at a scholars breakfast on May 22, 2009. The recognition event was sponsored by the North Country School Administrators Association and North Country Education Services. White Mountains Regional High School hosted the event with students from the WMRHS preparing the refreshments for the reception.

Zen Buddhism: Another View of Asia
As part of the Zen Buddhism series offered through the Northeast Cultural Coop, artist Jeanie Schermesser taught brush strokes at the Zen Painting class in October.

North Country Initiative for the Advancement of Science Teaching

The NCES Professional Development Center was awarded a grant (SAU 3 fiscal agent) for science related professional development. Projects in the initiative include:

Over the summer educators from SAUs 3, 20, 35, 36 & 68 assembled at the NCES PD Center to work with facilitator Paula Churchill to develop exemplary activities that connect content area skills for each grade level in the continuum.

Collaborating to meet ICT Literacy Standards

On May 15 & 16, educators from SAUs 3, 20, 35, 36 & 68 assembled at the NCES PD Center to work with facilitator Paula Churchill to develop a skills continuum model for districts to adopt in order to meet Information and Communication Technology Literacy Standards. In July, educators will work for further identify exemplary activities that connect content area skills for each grade level in the continuum.
